My son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2002, when he was 9 years old, after suffering for quite a long time with stomach issues, etc. At first, the “cure” sounded simple: A gluten-free diet.
However, as many of you know, finding gluten-free products was not as simple as it seemed. My frustration increased after many unsuccessful trips to the grocery store coming up empty handed with very little for him to safely eat. I quickly turned to the Internet and, thankfully, found many gluten-free sites available with a ton of information. I also spent a lot of time and money ordering gluten-free products online, only to discover that the taste of many pre-made gluten-free products was less than satisfying. So as the years went on, I baked a lot from scratch with the gluten-free flour mixtures available and used the numerous cookbooks I had purchased (thankfully I love to bake and cook).
Fast forward to today. There are so many wonderful gluten-free products on the market now, as well as restaurants that offer gluten-free menus! With the exception of the limited availability at local grocery stores and a few health food stores, though, the only way to purchase a variety of gluten-free products was to order on-line or travel several hours to the bigger cities. The end result was that I was still finding myself ordering my gluten-free products online and paying way too much for shipping.
So what better way to offer a variety of good, nutritious gluten-free products than to open an exclusive gluten-free shop in our hometown? This is howGood Naber Specialty Foods came to be.
Not only is it satisfying to know my family is getting great gluten-free meals, but it’s fun, too. I get to meet a lot of new people and do my best to share the information I have of the gluten-free world. And I learn something new everyday too, as many of our customers offer a wealth of knowledge. I enjoy spending my days at Good Naber Specialty Foods where anyone with a gluten sensitivity can come in and not worry about purchasing food that could possibly be harmful to them.
Whether you are new to the gluten-free world or have been gluten free before the world really knew what “gluten free” was, we hope you’ll come see us at Good Naber Specialty Foods. We think you’ll be pleased to see the products we offer: Everything from a variety flours, baking mixes, and pizza crusts to soups, snacks, and pastas, to name a few.
And don’t forget Udi’s Bread! If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re in for a treat!
Hope to see you soon.
